I cut out the panels of two ring binders and taped white material over the holes. These serve to soften the lights placed behind. A white sheet of paper former the back drop, taped at the top and allowed to lie loose under whatever may be photographed.
The difference in using this set up is shown below, the top photo is with my DIY light box, the bottom without. Only a slight difference but it can be seen fairly clearly in the shadows, those in the top image are softer and fade quicker, the lower ones are sharper and extend further.
The next pair of photos show first only a left light and second both lights on.
The next two are with both lights on but at different exposures. The third image is the result of playing around with combing the two photos using techniques learned from the HDR media tests.
