The Research proposal: Literature review re-structure

Introduction
with a focus on design development this study aims to identify issues faced by creatives in the broadcast industry.

GRAPHIC DESIGN, issues in design

Function vs Aesthetic
W.A. Dwiggins  ->  F.Meynell
Everything in the design is geared towards satisfying the client and getting the job done, innovation must be justified with reason backed up by results.
or
Taking into account the responsibility of design towards improving culture, innovation where ever it is possible in a constant search for improvement.

Intuition vs Theory
Gestalt  ->  Dennis Dutton
Working by instinct, tweaking until a design looks good, personal judgment.
or
designing with rules and guidelines set out by theory - aesthetics, psychology

Interpretation vs perception (slightly trick one)
Language of vision essay in Design writing research
???  ->  ???
design is image, a direct thought - language only a way of organising thought
or
language influences design, design influences language - presented together in harmony will result in a more potent message.

BROADCAST DESIGN, motion graphics
Saul Bass
Kyle Cooper

technology and it's influence - gave rise to motion design, tv creating broadcast design.  Also hindering - the machine leading the design (creation based on the abilities of the software)
(reference from notes somewhere) - we may be in a time after which design has gone through creation based on the limits of technology ready to move into the truly creative age of digital motion design.  (as happens with every new technology - a time of repetition, the design culture finding its feet)

The case studies

Conclusion
Many issues - the hope of this research is to identify which have a bigger practical impact on the success in the focus area: visual identity in broadcast design through motion graphics.
