Recently I came across a simple card design holding only the company name and their web site. This was featured somewhere in the Abduzeedo blog - unfortunately I have lost the specific post but have found an alternative one discussing various designs. The first in this post is another website only card:

The design was applauded for simplicity holding only the information that counted. It explained that it is unlikely anyone will enjoy typing in an email or plugging in a telephone number (admittedly small tasks but annoying in quantity). Currently, and specifically within creative industries, an online portfolio or reel will be the first stop of any prospective employers; if the work is impressive a link or contact on the site is far more preferable to going back to a card and manually entering details. With these things in mind I began the design process, as I am not a company it seemed appropriate to include 'motion designer' along side my name and site:
At this point I began looking into the options for printing and found uk.moo.com to have the highest quality products with short print runs. Their sample pack included a mini card which seemed more appropriate for the current design. This brought about the realisation that it could be improved for a normal sized card. I decided to design with the curved corner card in mind for a couple of reasons. The corners are more resilient and it's a little bit different with a kinder feeling. I chose the new font, planer: http://qfonts.net/modern-square/planer-font/
to reflect the curves of the card and create greater unity in the design. The inverted shades of each side came about with balance in mind, this is also the reason for filling most of the card area with text - as opposed to leaving large open space.
