The research question

"How do the marketing goals of a television channel or network drive the design of its branding?"

With the advance and spread of commercial design tools the creative industries face an increasing risk of allowing technology to take the lead in developing concepts. Considering the apparent fashion trends in motion graphics and the required use of technology throughout its creation, it was identified as an appropriate subject area for this study. Broadcast design was chosen as a focus due to its status as one of the most wide spread and highest impacting types of media. This study will therefor be of interest to a larger group of professionals than would otherwise be reached.

The initial two stages of this project have been designed to create an understanding in the roots of this subject before focusing on the specific area of brand development in broadcast design. The latter two stages concern themselves with developing identified methodologies through practice based research. The results of this will be analysed also using criteria identified in the initial stages.
