After effects particles media testing.
The aim of this series of tests was to find a way of creating the look of dust particles floating in the air.
The best results were achieved using the 'particle playground' effect with slowly evolving fractal noise as a displacement map to add more dynamic movement. Using the particle layer as a luminous track matt for the fractal layer gave the greater variation in tone. The bokeh effect in the second test was achieved with a large amount of lens blur coupled with fairly large and bright particles. The last test used depth of field from the camera to create blur, as did the first. The camera's depth of field is a very handy feature but with simple compositions I feel there is more control with the lens blur effect. Also, I am only using CS4, the lens blur has been greatly improved for CS5.5.
