ShiloDesign.com interview
Working in HD, a new format, "allows for a more detailed and rich visual experience"
"We do consider the demographics when connecting. Audiences are getting increasingly more sophisticated and savvy. But in the end, the narrative and design style are very much based on emotional impact versus statistics. We usually go with what feels right."
You can make a film entirely from digital or analogue resources. "Each approach has its pluses and minuses. You have to use them in such a way as to play up to their strengths."
Success - "It's not so much about the size of your company but the scale of your creative ideas and the ability to execute them in unique manner."

Were given the logo and small brief about the channel.
created 10 sets of style frames to lock down the feeling for the channel
used proof of concept pre vis. "so technically we know how to produce a certain look or feel prior to shooting."
"Creativity is about making mistakes so we try to make mistakes and experiment during the style frame portion of the process."
On the ever more blurred distinctions between film and design disciplines: "I feel that Designer / Directors like Belief are the future of this industry. We are a rare breed that understands all the elements of production and post production. In many of our productions we are also the Director of Photography and the Editor. While shooting we know if we can REALLY fix it in post or if we have to reshoot something."

"Viewers today are quite savvy and can recognise good design and animation from bad. Because of that it is imperative for companies like ours to keep finding innovative ways to use the technology to communicate. The business is constantly changing and innovating so you really can't expect to be successful using design ideas that are generally viewed as old or outdated."
"For us the main challenges of a project are always centred on the creative aspects. What's the best way to communicate this idea, what ever it may be? What kind of techniques do we want to use? Do we need to shoot live action? Do we use 2D or 3D?"
"Like any creative medium, motion graphics is about making choices and that's what is challenging about what we do."

"To get a message across in todays extremely loud environment, you need to create your own space. Nobody will give it to you. It's like talking in a noisy room. You need to create silence before you can talk."
"We spend a lot of time trying to nail the emotional message."
"Once we have nailed the vibe, the design is usually not that hard to do, it's a natural expression and extension of the message."
"We feel that the more involved we can be in the strategic thinking, the better our design and communication can succeed."

"Mixing 2D and 3D has been going on for quite some time and it's in part the result of having more access to 3D techniques in traditional 2D software platforms like after effects. What we are seeing a lot more of, however, is the use of 3D platforms to animate two-dimensional elements"
"Design is getting complex again. People get used to a particular type of graphic and as designers we want to mess around with them. It is a never ending cycle."
G4 ANIME
Is a renaissance of traditional animation styles currently occurring?
"I would say that we are seeing it more in commercials now as people are trying to create things that stand out. On the other hand very few films are being made in america with traditional cell animation these days as 3D has become the dominant medium. Though the cell animation we are seeing is becoming a lot looser, more illustrative and thus more interesting."
